Pictured here is a neck scarf version of Elegantly Simple Triangle Shawl knitted in handspun Icelandic wool singles.

I prepared a drum-carded batt of the wool slightly over half an ounce, so that it ranged from lightest (sort of an oatmeal color) through medium and dark brown. Then I casually spun it into a light nubby texture semi-worsted style from one edge of the batt to the other in strips. By casually, I mean that the spinning is quite non-uniform and I wouldn't want to enter this in any judging, but I did like the effect for this small neck scarf.

I began the knitting with the dark and proceeded as one long strand through the lightest. I bound off the edge with the small sample yarn I had spun to begin with. I think that on this small size, the bit of dark accentuates the scallops nicely. |
