A sheer and flowing long triangular shoulder wrap knit in geometric lace motifs. This is a good project to make in a special exotic fiber you've always wanted, as it requires only a small amount of laceweight yarn.

Alexis Acken writes about the Ethereal Fichu she made for her mother's birthday ...
The yarn is Laughing Rat Studio hand-dyed Laceweight Merino in the colorway "Peony". I added one repeat of chart C to make it a bit bigger. I gave the shawl to my mother for her birthday and she just loved it. |

I wanted to let you know the good news. Recently I finished the Ethereal Fichu shawl in a handspun of white superwash wool and my angora. It spun up beautifully and knitted up lovely, too. Finished and blocked just in time to enter in our county fair. Yesterday I found out that it won a Blue Ribbon adn they have it laid out nicely (to show offf the lace) in a glass case. I'm real happy with the hawl and thank you for such a nice pattern.
I've been playing a bit with painting some of our Wensleydale rovings. I'm in no danger of mastering this yet, but I am having fun. One of my experiments produced a small amount of brown / blue / blue-green roving. I spun it fairly fine, but still had very little of it to work with. I decided to try an experiment. I made a scarf based on the motif from your Ethereal Fichu. I hope you don't mind.
[Of course I don't mind, Kim. You purchased the pattern and can use it for your personal use in all the creative fun you want! Jackie E-S]
It turned out pretty well, considering my spinning and knittting. It is tapered at both ends and has a neat wavy edge. I don't have a decent digital camera, but I put the scarf on the scanner so you can get some idea of how it worked out.
